PPG Industries announced an offer to purchase SigmaKalon Group, a worldwide coatings producer based in Uithoorn, Netherlands, from global private investment firm Bain Capital. The total transaction value, including assumed debt, is €2.2 billion. Bain Capital has granted a period of exclusivity to PPG Industries and intends to respond to the offer after discussions with appropriate employee representative bodies. Should Bain Capital accept the offer, the acquisition would be subject to customary conditions, including receipt of regulatory approval.

The purchase price is US$115 million plus working capital adjustment. PPG estimates that the company will increase its reported coatings revenues by approximately US$400 million, or 7 percent, on an annual basis as a result of the acquisitions.

Pittsburgh-based PPG is the world's leading manufacturer of transportation coatings, a global supplier of industrial and packaging coatings, and a leading producer of architectural coatings, primarily in North America. In addition, PPG manufactures flat and fabricated glass, continuous-strand fiber glass and chemicals. Sales were US$10.2 billion for 2005.

Genesis Chemical Industry is the supplier of Ameron protective coating for the Celanese Project in Nanjing. The world’s largest polyformaldehyde manufacturer, Celanese, has founded a world level 600 thousand ton t/a acetic acid Plant in Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park, on the registered capital over 1 billion US dollar, and will be open to business in early summer next year.

Since the Chinese market is of much significance to Celanese’ strategic target, the company is planning to establish a Research and Development Center in China, which will possess over 500 workers. Apart from the mentioned, Celanese will be investing another 5 manufacturing project in Nanjing.

Genesis Chemical Industry is the supplier of Ameron high performance coating for the Suzhou Novartis Pharmaceuticals project. The high performance coatings needed are to be applied on steel structure.

According to the original plan, the new Suzhou branch will be completed in the end of 2007 and will locate in Changshu Economic Development District, Jiangsu Province. After completion, the company will mainly deal with pharmacy research and manufacture, as well as the R&D of new products.
